More About Your Hosts & the Show

Behind the mic

Matthew Pappas, CLC, MPNLP

The Beyond Your Past Podcast is hosted by Certified Life Coach, NLP Master Practitioner, and Mental Health Advocate, Matthew Pappas. He is also the founder of, a blog in support of all who have survived the Trauma of Abuse.

As a survivor of childhood trauma himself, he is keenly aware of the struggles that every day life brings when you’re working through a traumatic past. On top of that he is also someone who’s dealt with extreme anxiety, to the point of it running his life and dictating his entire being, for decades.

After deciding that enough was enough, and this was no way to live, he reached out for help from a therapist and coach to start taking his life back.  Throughout that process he began to realize his true calling; helping others in the ways that he was helped.

Through research, and connecting with incredible mentors like Jodi Aman, Athena Moberg, and a host of other amazing professionals, he is using his life story, experiences, and training to help others realize that there is hope after a traumatic past, and you too can live free and move forward from what’s been holding you back in life.

Joanne Cipressi, CHt, CNLP

Joanne Cipressi joined the podcast in February 2019. She is an award-winning life coach and the author of Ditch Your Doubt. She specializes in helping people to overcome emotional pain, habits, fears and intimacy issues, especially after trauma, betrayal, and abuse. She guides people to open their heart, to develop self-trust and inner peace, to build self-confidence and to love again.

Joanne is certified and trained in NLP, Advanced Clinical Hypnosis, Time-Line Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Therapy, EFT, and is a Reiki Master. In addition to these certifications and others, Joanne has experienced sexual abuse and various types of betrayals. Therefore, she personally understands the devastating effects and struggles that happen after abuse and betrayal.

However, she also understands that it’s possible to heal, trust, and love again because she has. She firmly believes that if she can change, then anyone can change. This is why Joanne has devoted most of the past 20 years of her life to helping people in her private practice and in volunteer work. She is thrilled to be the co-host of Beyond Your Past and hopes to encourage and inspire even more people to heal their past and to move forward with love, trust, and self-confidence.

About the Podcast

Beyond Your Past Podcast started out originally as a place for me to share my daily life, thoughts, and struggles as a survivor.  It was initially called, Surviving My Podcast, and designed to complement the trauma survivors blog,, which I started to help share my story with other survivors and break my own silence.

So I got myself a cheap mic and some software and just started talking…and it took off from there. To be fair, it wasn’t the first time I had done podcasting before; I used to do some NFL fan site podcasting with a friend, and kind of developed a knack for it. Plus it’s just lots of fun too! 🙂

I’ve since gotten better equipment, and branched out into not only sharing my story, but inviting guests to join me on the show so they can share their experiences with you!

Certified Coaches, Clinicians, Advocates, Authors,  join me each week to help encourage you to keep moving forward in your healing journey, to get back up when you’re knocked down, and to realize that you are never alone!
